DPR Will Summon Minister Trenggono To Discuss Sea Pagar In Tangerang After The Session Period

JAKARTA - Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives will summon the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and his staff to discuss the mysterious 30.16 kilometer sea fence in Tangerang Waters, Banten.

Member of Commission IV DPR Riyono Caping said the summons would be made after the trial period on January 21, 2025.

Meanwhile, the DPR is still in recess.

"After the trial period on January 21 (2025), Commission IV will summon parties related to the sea fence," Riyono told VOI, Monday, January 13.

For the exact time, Riyono admitted that there were two possibilities. First, the summons was made at the end of January and the second in early February.

This is because Commission IV of the DPR wants to see a response to the condition of the fence and the seal that has been carried out by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) first.

"It could be both (late January and early February), because of the response to the condition of the fence and the KKP seal," he said.

Even so, Riyono has not been able to provide certainty about the date of summoning the KKP.

Meanwhile, Riyono visited the location of the fence on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

He considered that the fencing had the potential to violate the use of marine space areas. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate who the perpetrators are.

"I want to know directly who made this fence? Why is there no concrete action from related parties? That is the core of our discussion on the beach," he said in his official statement.

He said, as many as 21,950 residents were affected by the sea fence on the coast of Tangerang Regency, Banten.

This number is calculated in the average family members of 3,888 fishermen and 502 cultivators obtained from data from the Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP) of Banten Province.

According to him, the fencing not only interferes with fishermen's access but also has the potential to damage marine biota habitat.

"If later there is reclamation without valid permission, ecological losses will be even greater," he said.

Furthermore, Riyono admitted that there was no action from the relevant stakeholders to address the sea fence.
