JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir decided to remove Orias Petrus Moedak from the position of President Director of Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID) and replaced by Hendi Prio Santoso. The decision was taken at the MIND ID General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) which was held on Friday 29 October.

MIND ID is a Mining Industry BUMN Holding consisting of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM), PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), PT Inalum (Persero), PT Timah Tbk (TINS), and PT Freeport Indonesia.

As is known, Orias himself has served as the President Director of MIND ID since November 25, 2019, replacing Budi Gunadi Sadikin who was then appointed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as Deputy Minister of SOEs.

MIND ID itself has also just recorded an increase in net profit to Rp9.8 trillion during the January to 30 September 2021 period, compared to the same period in 2020 where the company recorded a net loss of Rp1.4 trillion.

Then why was the president director removed when MIND ID made a profit?

The reshuffle that occurred in MIND ID was confirmed by a special staff of the SOE minister, Arya Sinulingga. He said that the reshuffle was aimed at accelerating the transformation of the mining industry based on sustainable and environmental friendly practices by optimizing the digitalization program and automation of smart mining mechanization 5.0.

"This reshuffle is also for the development of downstream mining industry towards integrated metal & mineral comprehensive upstream & downstream processing to maximize value and value that can be obtained domestically so that a strong domestic industry is built," he told reporters, Friday, October 29.

Not only that, said Arya, the reshuffle was also carried out so that MIND ID became the leading driving force in the national electric mobility industry development initiative, which aims to reduce the country's foreign exchange deficit due to net energy imports. And, according to him, in reducing carbon emissions in the land transportation sector.

"Also to accelerate the creation of an integrated ecosystem in the electric mobility sector by opening up investment opportunities and cooperation with global electric mobility players," he said.
