YOGYAKARTA In carrying out scientific research there are at least two approaches that are often used, namely qualitative and quantitative. Both have some basic differences and cannot be mixed with each other.

In the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), qualitative means something that is based on quality. While quantitative is based on the number or number.

In the context of research, qualitative and quantitative have a number of fundamental differences, namely as follows.

Quantitative research is carried out to review data in a measured and objective manner. Meanwhile, qualitative research is used to gain an understanding of a phenomenon through a descriptive analysis that is explored in detail.

In quantitative research, the collection is carried out in a structured manner such as questionnaires and observations which are then analyzed. Meanwhile, qualitatively collect data with interviews, observations, and document analysis.

Quantitative researchers will look at the facts from the data they have collected. Meanwhile, qualitative researchers view the facts as the subjective understanding of researchers. Qualitative research can be used to examine things that cannot be measured with statistics, for example about psychology, culture, and so on.

There are different mentions of the subjects studied. In quantitative methods, research subjects are called respods. While the subject of qualitative research is called resource persons.

Topics raised in quantitative research are usually used to find causal relations or seek specific modeling such as economics, consumer behavior, and so on. Meanwhile, qualitative research is used to study matters related to humans and culture.

The sample size used in quantitative research is usually larger and wider because it tries to search for samples from a population. Meanwhile, in qualitative research it is smaller but more convex.
