Shopee Opens Thousands Of Jobs In Solo, Mayor Of Gibran Anak Jokowi Commits To Facilitate Licensing

JAKARTA - The e-commerce company Shopee is committed to creating thousands of new jobs in the city of Solo following the opening of an office in the area.

Director of Shopee Indonesia, Handhika Jahja, at the inauguration of the Shopee Office in Solo, said that by 2022 the company targets 2,000 new jobs to be created.

"Shopee is included as an ecosystem supporting MSMEs and businesses in Solo. I believe that national economic growth originating from the regional economy depends on MSMEs and job creation," he said, quoted from Antara, Monday, October 11.

Prior to the opening of the office in Solo, in May 2021 the company had started by opening the Shopee MSME Campus in Solo. He said the establishment of the MSME Campus was due to seeing the potential of MSMEs and sellers in Solo to be able to compete in the global market.

"I see the enthusiasm of the seller. (From the Shopee MSME Campus) more than 6,500 MSMEs in Solo have exported, the target is that by the end of this year there are 10,000 MSMEs selling exports," he said.

He hopes that the existence of the MSME office and campus can bring Solo to be part of the digital ecosystem and the world.

"The hope is that it can grow the Indonesian economy and advance to class, especially in terms of MSMEs and 'manpower', the workforce in Indonesia," he said.

On the same occasion, the Mayor of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, appreciated the opening of the new office.

"Shopee is very committed to creating job opportunities in Solo and is committed to raising and assisting MSMEs in Solo," he said.

In this regard, he is committed to simplifying the licensing process and collaborating with Shopee.

"In terms of regulation and cooperation, we make it easy, because this is very profitable for the City of Solo. In addition to the MSME Campus and a new office, Shopee will also be at the STP (Solo Technopark) which shows Shopee's commitment to grow MSMEs in Solo and create jobs," he said.
