JAKARTA - University of Indonesia (UI) together with Bank Indonesia (BI) inaugurated the BI Corner reading corner facility at UI Depok Campus.

The Chancellor of the University of Indonesia Ari Kuncoro said that his party appreciated the initiative from the central bank to establish reading facilities at the UI Library. According to him, this public space can be a useful educational tool not only for students, but also for the general public who come to UI.

"We hope that the existence of the BI Corner can provide deeper insight into what the latest policies are being carried out by BI and can also motivate students to cultivate a culture of reading and writing," he said in a press statement quoted on Saturday, September 4.

On the same occasion, BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti revealed that the BI Corner is intended to provide access to the latest quality literature for the public.

“Especially access to literature in the fields of economics and finance. In addition, the BI Corner also aims to introduce and provide understanding to the public about the duties and roles of Bank Indonesia in the economy," he said.

For information, BI Corner was inaugurated through a virtual opening ceremony on Thursday, September 3, 2021. This facility is claimed to provide 250 titles of books in Indonesian and 100 titles in English related to finance and economics that can be accessed by everyone for free. This library collection is available in print, audio-visual, and electronic forms.

There are various types of reading, ranging from banking, economics, finance, taxation to fiction books. It is said that this reading collection will continue to be added every year through the book updating mechanism carried out by BI.

Not only in the form of a book corner facility, the BI Corner collaboration will also include organizing seminars/public lectures, discussions, book reviews, as well as student competitions such as speech contests, English debates and book review competitions.

"The existence of the BI Corner is Bank Indonesia's support to realize the vision of the UI Library, which is to provide quality library services for the community through the use of information and technology resources," concluded Destry.
