Well, Sri Mulyani Is Pessimistic That The Tax Target Can Be Achieved This Year: Delta Variant Hit

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani chose to be realistic about the possibility of achieving the 2021 tax target given the implementation of the Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) in a number of regions. He conveyed this when holding a Working Meeting with Commission XI of the DPR at the Jakarta Parliament Complex today.

"Tax revenues will be lower than the target due to restrictions on activities and community mobility, especially due to the development of the COVID-19 delta variant which will have an effect in the second semester, to be precise from July and August," he said through a virtual channel, Monday, August 23.

According to the Minister of Finance's calculations, it is believed that tax revenues will only reach 90 percent of the budget ceiling.

"We estimate that our tax revenue outlook will be at the level of 92.9 percent this year," he said.

However, other state revenue sectors, namely customs and excise and PNBP (Non-Tax State Revenue) are projected to exceed the set targets.

“Although our taxes are hit by the delta variant, customs and excise may be above the target, which is 108.6 percent. Meanwhile, our PNBP is likely to reach 119.8 percent, which is supported by revenues from SDA (natural resources) and commodities. So, our reception is quite good,” he explained.

To note, the tax revenue target in the 2021 APBN is stated at Rp. 1,229.6 trillion, with realization until the first semester of 2021 at Rp. 557.8 trillion.

Then customs and excise of Rp215 trillion with a realization of Rp122.2 trillion, and PNBP of Rp298.2 trillion with a realization of Rp206.9 trillion until the first half of this year.

Meanwhile, state revenues in the 2021 APBN Law are expected to reach Rp. 1,743.6 trillion, with realization in the first semester of Rp. 886.9 trillion.
