Bahlil Reveals The Impact Of Expatriate Migration And How It Affects The Acceleration Of Company Performance

JAKARTA - Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, revealed the impact of the large number of foreigners leaving Indonesia following the surge in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia.

According to him, the departure of foreign nationals who are generally experts in foreign companies operating in Indonesia will certainly have an impact on the acceleration of work or company performance.

"It must be admitted that every company that is running its operations when some of its experts return home, there must be dynamics in accelerating the work. Now, we must mediate this dynamic (so that) it can be resolved", said Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia in an online presentation on investment realization in the first semester of 2021, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 27.

Bahlil Lahadalia admitted that he could not confirm the effect of the expulsion of foreign workers on the investment of foreign companies in the country.

"Is there an impact in the third quarter? I can't answer right now, we have to ask them what the problem is and what solutions we will make. Please give us a little chance to detect which companies have experts back and how to get them to come quickly", said Bahlil Lahadalia.

Throughout the first semester of 2021, investment realization reached IDR 442.8 trillion, or 49.2 percent of the target set by President Jokowi of IDR 900 trillion. These achievements consist of the realization of Foreign Investment (PMA) reaching IDR 228.5 trillion (51.6 percent) and the realization of Domestic Investment (PMDN) reaching IDR 214.3 trillion (48.4 percent).

"The IDR 442.8 trillion achievements is a percentage of the IDR 900 trillion that has reached 49.2 percent. We have to admit that in the third quarter the work is extra tight because we are subject to PPKM (Restrictions on Community Activities) in July-August", said Bahlil Lahadalia.

The former Chairperson of Hipmi added that the challenges faced in the third quarter of 2021 were tough because during that period Indonesia experienced a high increase in COVID-19 cases. However, Bahlil admitted that until now there is no plan to revise the target.

"When asked whether you want to revise the target? Until now I haven't thought about it, but when asked what the strategy is to achieve the target, this is being carried out. Give us time to work, we work day and night to find out how we can push the realization to reach the target", said Bahlil Lahadalia.
