JAKARTA - The availability of basic food needs, meat, and eggs in the East Kalimantan Province are in a safe condition ahead of this year's Eid al-Adha celebration.

Head of the Cooperative Trade Industry Office (Disperindagkop) and East Kalimantan Province SMEs HM Yadi Robyan Noor said the availability of basic food ingredients including rice, sugar, and cooking oil, as well as meat and eggs, could be sufficient for the next three months.

He said that until July 16, 2021, it was reported that rice stocks in East Kalimantan amounted to 127,315 tons (Bulog 10,330 tons and Non-Bulog 116,985 tons).

"With a demand level of 42,787 tons, it is estimated that the stock will be sufficient for the next 3 months," said Yadi Robyan Noor, in Samarinda, quoted from Antara, Monday, July 19.

Roby added that the sugar stock is 26,751 tons while the community's needs are estimated at 6,812 tons per month, so it is considered sufficient for three months' needs.

For cooking oil, the available stock is 15,479 tons, while the monthly demand is estimated at 3,762 tons so that it is sufficient to meet the needs of more than 4 months.

Roby said the availability of chicken eggs is also abundant, with stocks of 8,892 tons, while the monthly demand is estimated at 2,381 tons. Beef stock is 4,977 tons, while the need per month is 2,152 tons and is considered sufficient to meet the needs of about 2.5 months. Chicken stock is 13,467 tons and the need per month is 17,545 tons and the resistance is only about 0.8 months.

To anticipate the availability of this chicken meat, Roby added that his party has asked suppliers to increase their stock of chicken meat in the market.

Roby also mentioned the possibility of receiving various stimulant funds from the center to help people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"So people don't need to shop too much, let alone panic buying, because our stock is still quite safe," said Roby, who has also led the East Kalimantan BKD for a long time.

Meanwhile, regarding the possibility of price increases ahead of Eid al-Adha, Roby said it could happen because high demand will trigger price increases.

"We will continue to monitor. If there is a price increase for two days in a row, we will intervene by going directly to the field with distributors. We will keep prices stable and return," added Roby.
