Luhut Asks For Tightening Of Labor Hours: I Suggest To The Minister Of Manpower Ida Fauziyah To Make Clear Regulations

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan requested that working hours for laborers or workers be tightened following the number of red zones, especially where industries operate.

Nevertheless, Luhut said that there was a downward trend in community mobility in Java-Bali during the implementation of Emergency PPKM.

"Our numbers (community mobility) today are quite good, healing is increasing, meaning that areas with Black Zones change to Red, Red Zones to Yellow Zones, well that's quite a lot today. But there are still things that need attention, one of them is the workers where there is still a lot of red in the industry. If possible, I suggest that their work schedule be tightened," he said in a virtual coordination meeting, as quoted in a written statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 14.

According to Luhut, the tightening of the Emergency PPKM is expected to immediately reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19 so that workers or laborers can immediately work normally.

The Coordinator of the Java-Bali Emergency PPKM also proposed to the Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah to implement the mechanism of working one day at home.

"If he should work 30 days a month, this becomes 15 days. So a day at home, a day at work. This is also in principle to avoid the workers/laborers being 'laid off'," said Luhut.

However, so that companies do not interpret WFH (working from home) without wages for workers, Luhut reminded the Minister of Manpower to make clear regulations.

"WFH and being dismissed, please make it clear, so that later it can be translated through ministerial regulations or circular instructions from the Minister of Home Affairs. So there are no different interpretations," he said.

In addition, in order to further optimize the prevention of COVID-19 transmission, he suggested that the lunch hour for 50 percent of workers or laborers who come to work be arranged so that they do not coincide.

"So don't let them eat lunch together, causing a crowd. The point is to pay attention to meal times, don't meet to eat together. I leave this to the Minister of Manpower Ida," said Luhut. addressed to all governors to appeal to entrepreneurs or company leaders to optimize the implementation of SE Number M/7/AS.02.02/V/2020.

"No less important is the business continuity plan in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the protocol for preventing the transmission of COVID-19 in the company. Also to comply with the Emergency PPKM," he said.

Ida explained that employers or company leaders are also advised to encourage and provide opportunities or facilitate workers/laborers to participate in vaccinations, also to seek to provide masks, routine health equipment for workers/laborers, and optimize health service facilities in companies if they already exist.

"In fact, we also convey to companies if possible to provide a means of self-isolation if any of their workers are exposed to COVID," concluded Ida.
