JAKARTA - The government through the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan has finally officially announced the Implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) on July 3-20.

"We hope that within that time we can reduce (daily cases of COVID-19) below 10,000 or around 10,000 per day," he said in a virtual press conference, Thursday, July 1.

Luhut added that the implementation of PPKM this time was urgent. He asked the regional heads to carry out various directives set by the government. In fact, the state has prepared sanctions for regional leaders if they do not obey these rules.

"In the event that the governor, regent and mayor do not implement the provisions of the Emergency PPKM, they will be subject to administrative sanctions in the form of written warnings twice in a row up to a temporary dismissal as stipulated," he said.

The detailed arrangements, continued Luhut, will be issued through the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri).

It does not stop there, he will also take firm action if false news is found related to the COVID-19 condition in the country.

"We will take action in accordance with applicable law because it can result in the death of another person. Once again I remind you never to play with hoax news because this is about humanity," he said.

As is known, after the period of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, the daily number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase. Even in the last week the number of people who were confirmed positive had more than 20,000 cases.
