Domestic COVID-19 Cases Goes Crazy, Luhut: The Government Has Asked People To Stay Home, But They Didn't Listen And Performed Homecoming Anyway

JAKARTA - The case of COVID-19 in the country has recently increased. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan spoke about this. According to him, this spike in cases was due to the fault of all parties.

Therefore, Luhut assessed that the government and the public must both be introspective in responding to the increase in COVID-19 cases that occurred after the 2021 Eid holiday.

According to Luhut, the government has given an appeal not to go home, but there are still many who insist on performing homecoming. In fact, said Luhut, the government has asked the public to stay at home to avoid a spike in cases.

"It's our fault, the government has asked us to stay at home, not to perform homecoming, but we didn't listen and we reap what we sow now. So we all have to reflect", he said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, June 15.

Moreover, said Luhut, there are still many leaders who do not set good examples to the community in preventing the transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19.

"If we as leaders don't set an example, the impact is like now, there are many victims directly or indirectly due to our own actions", he said.

Luhut also asked the public to be concerned about the explosion in the positive number of COVID-19. In addition, he also appealed to the public to be aware of the new variant of COVID-19 from India that had entered Indonesia and was estimated to be more virulent.

"The exponential increase (active cases) with the entry of this Indian variant", he said.

For your information, the number of COVID-19 after the long Eid holiday continues to rise. In the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 Task Force recorded 8.189 daily confirmed positive cases. Thus, the accumulation of positive cases in the country increased to 1.919.547 cases.

The province with the most additional cases was DKI Jakarta with 2.722 cases. While the total cases reached 450.793. Then, West Java with 1.532 new cases and 330.472 cumulative cases. Then, Central Java with 1.400 new cases added, and the total number of cases was 217.084.

The increase in cases has reduced the hospital's capacity. Data from the Ministry of Health recorded at least 17 districts/cities with bed occupancy rates (BOR) isolation and intensive care for COVID-19 patients at 80 percent to 100 percent.

Meanwhile, the BOR for intensive care is above 80 percent. Meanwhile, 21 regencies/cities with isolation BOR above 80 percent.
