Support Waste Processing Management, Bank Jakarta is Ready to Build a Municipal Organic Waste Biodigester in Rusunawa Rorotan and Rawa Badak Jakut

JAKARTA - As a form of contribution to efforts to address environmental issues in Jakarta, Bank Jakarta through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program plans to build a communal biodigester based on organic waste.

The development of this program is planned to be carried out in two locations in North Jakarta, namely Rusunawa Rorotan, Cilincing, North Jakarta and TPS 3R North Rawa Badak Village which is marked by the laying of the first stone (groundbreaking) on Monday, August 10 at Rusunawa Rorotan by the Corporate Secretary of Bank Jakarta Arie Rinaldi, together with the Assistant for Economy and Development of the Mayor of North Jakarta, Wawan Budi Rohman, Secretary of the City Administration of North Jakarta, Iyan Sopian Hadi, Head of the Environment and Natural Resources Sub-Directorate of the City Administration of North Jakarta, Edy Mulyanto, and the Head of Cilincing, Daniel Azka Alfarobi.

Bank Jakarta President Director, Agus H. Widodo, through his official statement said that the plan to build this communal biogas plant is one of the tangible steps in the form of Bank Jakarta's contribution in supporting the handling of waste problems in Jakarta, especially organic waste. Through biogas technology, organic waste can be processed into biogas as renewable energy and residues that can be used as organic fertilizer.

Furthermore, Agus said that waste management is a common challenge that requires collaboration and consistency from various parties. "The construction of a biogas plant in Rorotan is a tangible contribution from Bank Jakarta to help answer the waste management challenge in Jakarta. We want the TJSL program to run to provide real benefits to the community while supporting efforts to maintain the environment of Jakarta," said Agus.

This program is also part of the implementation of Bank Jakarta's Sustainable Finance Action Plan (RAKB) for 2026, especially in supporting organic waste management, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and renewable energy utilization. Technically, each biodigester is designed to process up to 250 kilograms of organic waste per day. With two biodigester units, the processing capacity can reach 500 kilograms per day, which produces biogas as well as residues in the form of organic fertilizer. Based on technical studies, the two biodigester units are projected to produce around 37.5 cubic meters of biogas per day and reduce greenhouse gas emissions of around 423 kilograms of CO2e per day or 154.4 tons of CO2e per year.

Bank Jakarta Corporate Secretary, Arie Rinaldi said that waste management requires collaboration and continuity of programs.

"Through the construction of this biodigester, Bank Jakarta takes part in the management of organic waste from sources and encourages waste to provide added value for the community. Collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is an important part so that waste management efforts can be carried out more integrated," said Arie.

The construction of the biodigester in Rorotan is one of the sustainable programs for Bank Jakarta's contribution to the use of environmentally friendly waste processing technology. Previously, Bank Jakarta had supported the construction of a communal biodigester installation in Pekayon Village, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, which was inaugurated in November 2025.

"The experience of the biodigester program in Pekayon is part of our efforts to continue to expand our contribution in the environmental sector. Now, we are expanding the use of biodigester technology derived from the processing of organic waste from sources through a collaboration program with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government," he explained.

Through this program, Bank Jakarta together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes to strengthen community-based organic waste management while encouraging the creation of a cleaner, healthier, and sustainable Jakarta environment.

This commitment also supports Bank Jakarta's contribution to a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 7 on clean and affordable energy, SDG 11 on sustainable cities and settlements, SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production, SDG 13 on climate change management, and SDG 17 on partnerships to achieve goals.
