JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has launched the Mentari Nusantara I Solar Power Plant (PLTS) project with a total capacity of 1.225 gigawatt which was developed through the integrated procurement scheme entitled "Giga One". The official tender process starts on April 30, 2026.
For information, Giga One is a new breakthrough in the model of procurement of large-scale renewable energy plants. Through the bundling or consolidation scheme of a number of projects in one strategic package, PLN encourages the creation of more optimal economies of scale and provides more measurable project certainty for investors.
PLN's Director of Project Management and Renewable Energy, Suroso Isnandar, said that the procurement of the Mentari Nusantara I PV plant through Giga One is a flagship program that is the initial driver in supporting the government's target of building a PV plant with a capacity of 100 gigawatt, as initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.
"Through the Giga One bundling strategy, PLN places renewable energy as the growth engine of the national industry. This is not just the construction of a plant, but the development of an integrated clean energy industry ecosystem from upstream to downstream," explained Suroso, quoted Saturday, May 2.
In addition to accelerating construction, this program is also directed to increase the Domestic Component Rate (TKDN) and strengthen national energy manufacturing. Thus, the domestic supply chain will be more solid and competitive.
In terms of capacity, the Mentari Nusantara I solar plant of 1.225 gigawatt will be spread across various regions of Indonesia, including Sumatra (35 MW), Kalimantan (340 MW), Java (600 MW), Sulawesi (50 MW), West Nusa Tenggara (80 MW), and Maluku and Papua (120 MW). All projects are targeted to reach commercial operation date (COD) in 2029.
In the future, Giga One's integrated procurement strategy will also be replicated in the development of integrated hydro, wind, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) plants. This step is part of the transformation of the national electricity sector towards a clean energy system that is independent, resilient, and sovereign.
"Giga One is a new blueprint for the procurement of renewable energy in Indonesia and an important milestone in the national energy transition journey," concluded Suroso.
