JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu), Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa proposed an incentive program for electric motorcycles to be implemented this year.
The incentive is planned to be disbursed gradually. In the initial phase, the program is targeted to cover around 6 million units of motorcycles.
"I propose that we give (incentives) first. The first one is 6 million motorcycle sales, but not all at once. We will see it gradually. But, we will try to make a new program," said Purbaya in a media briefing in Jakarta, Friday, April 25, reported by ANTARA.
Purbaya explained that the program is still in the study phase and will be discussed further with the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.
Initial studies lead to a subsidy of around IDR 5 million per unit. However, this amount is still potentially subject to change as the policy finalization process progresses.
"It has been discussed. Later, how many motorbikes will be subsidized is still being considered, and we want to show what it looks like. But, what is clear is that I am still discussing with the Minister of Industry, the Coordinating Minister (Economy), and we will report again to the President according to the instructions at that time," he said.
Purbaya said the incentive was prepared as part of the government's plan to replace all conventional motorcycles in Indonesia with electric motorcycles.
This policy is in line with the government's target to gradually convert around 120 million gasoline-powered motorcycles into electric motorcycles in the next three to four years.
The program, which is driven by President Prabowo Subianto, aims to accelerate the transition to clean energy while reducing the burden of fuel subsidies.
