JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) and PT PLN (Persero) strengthen the synergy of geothermal development in encouraging the national energy transition. The synergy is marked by a visit from PT PLN (Persero) to the PGE Lahendong Area in Tomohon, North Sulawesi.
During this visit, the two SOEs discussed the optimization of existing plants, the development of greenfield and brownfield projects, as well as strategic partnerships.
Director of Operations of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk Andi Joko Nugroho said that this visit from PLN is a form of partnership from both parties in developing geothermal potential in Sulawesi and Sumatra.
"This visit is a means to ensure that geothermal operations run in line with the principles of good corporate governance, considering that PLN is the main offtaker of geothermal energy produced by PGE," said Andi, quoted on Saturday, February 17.
In this meeting, the technical documents of the Lahendong PLTP project units 7 and 8, the Steam Purchase Agreement (PJBU) for the Kotamobagu PLTP Units I, II, III, and IV, as well as the development of the Penuh River WKP were also discussed.
Andi Joko also explained that the Lahendong PLTP, which began operating in 2001, has become one of the backbone of the electricity system, supplying electricity to meet up to 24 percent of the electricity needs in the North Sulawesi region.
He hopes that the solid synergy will enable PGE to continue to play its role in maintaining national energy resilience, encouraging the acceleration of the clean energy transition, and actively contributing to achieving national carbon emission reduction targets.
"We also want to ensure a role in supporting the Net Zero Emission target through the development of geothermal-based clean energy," said Andi.
To date, PGE manages geothermal installed capacity of 1,932 MW, about 70 percent of the total national installed geothermal capacity, with results from geothermal-based electricity generation reaching 4,827 gigawatt hours (GWh) in 2024, supplying clean electricity for more than 2 million households.
