Yogyakarta - The Yogyakarta City Government and GoPay collaborate to digitize street musicians through the Yogyakarta City Government's Cultural Service through the Yogyakarta City Cultural Heritage Area Management Unit, in support of the Malioboro area as the axis of Yogyakarta philosophy which has been designated by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage.

This collaboration allows musicians to receive appreciation in a cashless or non-cash manner by using the QRIS from the GoPay Merchant application. With this application, they can also withdraw funds at any time and free of charge to any bank without any fees.

Haryanto Tanjo, Head of GoPay Merchants said, "Our mission at GoPay is to open access to financial services as widely as possible, including for daily workers and MSMEs.

"We are proud to be able to support the Special Region of Yogyakarta Government in realizing an integrated digital ecosystem, including through the implementation of QRIS and non-cash transactions, with the GoPay Merchant technology that we have presented," he said in a written statement, Friday, January 16.

As part of efforts to strengthen the cultural ecosystem in the Malioboro area, this digitization is also expected to increase the visibility of street musicians in the creative economy ecosystem. Through a more modern payment mechanism, musicians can manage finances independently and at the same time be an initial step to encourage the adoption of inclusive technology in the creative economy sector.

Yetti Martanti, S.Sos, MM, Head of the Yogyakarta City Government Culture Service, emphasized that Malioboro is not only a tourist icon, but also a living space for local artists, including street musicians.

"Through this digitization, we want to provide access to inclusive financial technology to the cultural sector and creative industries. We hope that this step will open up greater opportunities for musicians to increase their appreciation, as people's patterns are increasingly accustomed to non-cash transactions," he explained.

This transformation comes amid the increasing trend of digital transactions in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Based on data from the Bank Indonesia DIY Representative Office, as of September 2025, the value of QRIS-based transactions in Yogyakarta reached IDR 41.09 trillion - an increase of 237.19 percent compared to the same period last year. Transaction volume also increased to 486 million times or an increase of 274.01 percent (YoY). The number of QRIS users in DIY was recorded at 980,591 people, with more than 987,737 active merchants.
