JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) targets that the Sicincin-Padang Panjang section can be fully opened during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming.

Previously, the section was one of the infrastructures affected by the landslide some time ago.

Therefore, the West Sumatra National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) of the Ministry of PU's Road Development Directorate General continues to carry out field monitoring and technical studies on the landslide location.

According to Minister PU Dody Hanggodo, the handling is focused on cleaning the landslide material, stabilizing the slope and securing the road body to prevent subsequent events.

After being opened in a limited manner for four-wheeled vehicles to pass since December 16, 2025, currently the work of the section has begun to enter the permanent construction phase with bore pile work.

"Recognizing that the Sicincin-Padang road is a vital section for the community's economy, we continue to accelerate handling, so that the section is targeted to be fully opened during the 2026 Eid homecoming and return," Dody said in an official statement, Thursday, January 15.

In order to accelerate the handling, the Ministry of PU also involved PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI) which has experience in handling natural disasters on road sections with similar characteristics.

According to Dody, the budget for handling the section can only be submitted after the results of the technical study are completed.

"The estimated budget needs for handling will be submitted after the results of the technical study are completed," he said.

During the handling process, continued Dody, his party directed road users to be able to use the Padang-Bukittinggi alternative route through Solok, passing through the Sitinjau Lauik area and Lake Singkarak.

"This alternative route can be used even though it takes longer than the main route," he added.
