JAKARTA - The 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) Free Homecoming Program with official road transportation has begun. A total of 3,090 people participated in the program organized by the Ministry of Transportation.

The departure of thousands of participants returning home was carried out directly by the Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi at the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 23.

Dudy emphasized safety as the main principle in the implementation of the Nataru transportation, including the free homecoming program organized by the Ministry of Transportation.

"I keep reminding that safety is the main priority that cannot be negotiated. Let's create reliable and safe land transportation, especially during the 2025/2026 Nataru period," said Dudy in an official statement, Tuesday, December 23.

Dudy also reminded participants to keep their health conditions during the trip, so that the moment of gathering with family at home can run smoothly.

"I also ask all participants to maintain their health, so that the holiday moments at home can run smoothly and full of warmth," he said.

In this free road transportation homecoming program, the Ministry of Transportation serves 10 destination cities, namely Solo, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Wonosobo, Semarang, Wonogiri, Cilacap, Purwokerto, Malang, and Madiun.

As many as 75 bus units were prepared to transport 3,090 passengers, as well as two trucks to carry 60 motorcycles on the homecoming journey to the 10 cities.

Dudy said the free homecoming program not only provides services to the public, but also becomes the government's effort to reduce traffic density and reduce the potential for accidents, especially those involving motorcycles during long holidays.

"This free homecoming program is expected to be a solution for the community so that they do not have to travel far by motorcycle, which is high risk," said Dudy.

In addition, Dudy also conveyed that the government had prepared adequate land transportation facilities and infrastructure to support the smooth movement of the community during the 2025/2026 Christmas season. Currently, there are 31,433 bus units and 177 terminals ready to serve the community.

Regarding safety aspects, Dudy said that as of December 21, 2025, the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation had carried out ramp checks on 73,914 vehicles from a target of 45,000 units.

Of that figure, 50,183 units or around 67.89 percent were allowed to operate, 13,082 units or around 17.70 percent were given a warning to make improvements, 7,949 units or around 10.75 percent were prohibited from operating, and 2,700 units or around 3.65 percent were subject to a fine and prohibited from operating.
