JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) as Pertamina Gas Subholding together with Pertamina Peduli supports disaster management in the Sumatra region by providing a logistics supply of public kitchens at the Pertamina Cares Post and building a clean water screening installation for affected communities. The assistance is located in the Pertamina Refinery Unit (RU) oil refinery area at Brandan Base, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra.
General Manager of PGN Regional Sumatra, Andi Sangga, said that logistical support for public kitchens is a top priority because the need for food is still the biggest challenge at evacuation posts.
"Today we support the Pertamina Peduli Command Post at RU P. Brandan through the logistical support of public kitchens. In a disaster situation, ready-to-eat food is a source of energy for the community to recover immediately, for that we are trying to meet these needs as quickly as possible," Andi said, Saturday, December 6.
Raden Cepih Herdanau Nugraha, Senior Supervisor RU II Area Pangkalan Brandan added that Pertamina ensures that this public kitchen can operate every day so that the affected people have access to nutritious, safe and hygienic foods consistently.
"The management of the command post is carried out by a joint team from Pertamina Group, volunteers, and elements of the local community. It is targeted that this public kitchen can prepare 2000 servings of food per day. The cooking process is also carried out centrally to maintain cleaning standards and facilitate distribution," he said.
In addition to public kitchens, PGN also helps prepare emergency water filter installations to help meet clean water needs. Currently, the Water Treatment Plant owned by RU II Area P. Brandan is still in the process of repairing due to flooded machines when a disaster strikes the plant area. So far, people rely on clean water facilities from RU Brandan through the fire tank which are increasingly limited due to high post-disaster demand.
This installation uses a combination of modern filtering systems to convert water from local sources into water that is suitable for consumption and ready to drink. The technology used includes sediment filters, carbon filters, water softer, reverse osmosis (RO) and booster pumps to maintain pressure so that the entire process runs optimally.
With this technology, water can be directly used for cooking, drinking, as well as basic needs for refugees and volunteers in the field. "Installation is already running and will continue to be monitored for the effectiveness of the engine's supply and technical realizability, we hope that later the residents of Brandan will be able to collect clean water here for needs during the emergency period," explained PGN's CSR Division Head, Krisdyan Widagdo Adhi.

This support is a form of PGN's concern in ensuring that the basic needs of residents are met during the emergency response period.
"We ensure that the support provided is able to reach the basic needs of the community, from ready-to-eat food to clean water supply," he said.
He added that PGN will continue to coordinate with Pertamina Group, local governments, and elements of society to adjust aid according to conditions in the field. PGN hopes that the assistance carried out by PGN and other parties who care can accelerate recovery and a sense of security for disaster-affected communities in Sumatra.
