US Becomes The Largest Indonesian Shrimp Export Market, Its Value Reaches IDR 33.25 Trillion

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) revealed that the United States (US) is the largest shrimp market for Indonesia.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said the export value of Indonesian shrimp to the US reached 2 billion US dollars or around Rp. 33.25 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 16,630 per US dollar).

"The value of our own shrimp export is very large, 1.6 billion-2 billion US dollars and thank you America is the biggest market," Trenggono said in his remarks at the export release event at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 3.

Moreover, Trenggono said, US authorities had appointed the KKP as the only authority authorized to provide export-related certification, including shrimp.

He added that the government has also received specifications from the US, which will make it easier for shrimp processors in Indonesia to have their own equipment.

"They make sure it doesn't exist, we will provide certification. Those are ways for us to work together, be transparent and the goal is how we can really succeed in exporting the seafood or shrimp sector," he said.

It is known, the total value of shrimp exports reached 1.4 billion US dollars in January-September 2025. Its value rose 17.5 percent on an annual basis (yoy). Of this value, the US is still the main destination for shrimp exports with a share of 63.1 percent of Indonesia's total shrimp exports in the first 9 months of 2025.

The export value of shrimp to the US reached US $ 881.27 million, an increase of 16.3 percent yoy in January-September 2025, with a volume of 99,170 tons.

Meanwhile, since October 31-2 December 2025, as many as 303 shrimp containers have been exported to the US, consisting of 228 containers from Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, and 75 containers from Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, with a total value of Rp949 billion.

Most recently, today, December 3, 2025, Indonesia again sent 182 tons of certified shrimp to the US worth Rp25 billion through ports in Jakarta and Surabaya.

Indonesia is ready to export shrimp again until the end of December 2025, reaching 292 containers weighing 5,000 tons with a total value of Rp900 billion.

Thus, from October 31 to the end of December 2025, shrimp exports to the US will reach 605 containers or 10,000 tons with a value of IDR 1.8 trillion.
