JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of national unemployed in August 2025 reached 7.46 million people or about 0.77 percent of the total unemployment was a victim of layoffs (PHK).
BPS Deputy for Balance and Statistics Analysis Moh Edy Mahmud explained that the majority of unemployment due to layoffs came from the manufacturing, mining and trade industry sectors.

In addition, he conveyed that unemployment from the new graduate group (fresh graduate) and newcomers in the work market (new ENTrants) was recorded at 14.58 percent.
"Then the third is, the workforce that has just graduated in the last year, so new ventures and fresh graduates, which are not absorbed, so it has not been absorbed, only entered the labor market or those who have just graduated, the new ventures and fresh graduates are 14.58 percent," he said.
Edy said that long-term unemployment, namely those looking for work for more than a year, reached 31.08 percent.
"The new non fresh graduate workforce is 13.97 percent. And the sixth is to have had experience before but currently unemployed, it's 30.53 percent," he added.
Previously, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the number of unemployed in Indonesia in August 2025 reached 7.46 million people.
Edy explained that this number showed a decline of around 4,000 people compared to the same period in the previous year.
"The workforce that is not absorbed by the labor market has become unemployed, which is 7.46 million people or a decrease of around 4,000 people compared to August 2024," he said.
Furthermore, Edy said, the number of working-age population as of August 2025 reached 218.17 million people, or an increase of 2.80 million people compared to the previous year.
