These Five Locations Are Modeling For Extensification And Intensification Of The Salt Pond Area For Swasembada 2027

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is trying to realize salt self-sufficiency in 2027 (doc. KKP).

JAKARTA - The modeling of extensification and intensification of salt pond areas is one of the efforts of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) to realize salt self-sufficiency in 2027.

Quoted from the official Instagram account @kkpgoid, Saturday, October 18, 2025, a year of President Prabowo Subianto's Government and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka targeted Indonesia to be self-sufficient in salt by 2027, be it consumption salt to industrial salt.

"To improve the quality and quantity of national salt towards this salt self-sufficiency, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has designed an extensive modeling and intensification of salt pond areas in five locations, namely Rote Ndao, Indramayu, Cirebon, Pati, and Sabu Raijua," the account wrote.

Later, the construction of extensification and intensification of salt pond areas will be carried out on an area of 2,000 hectares (ha).

At least, there are four benefits that will result from modeling the extensification and intensification of the salt pond area. First, increasing the productivity of salt land through intensification to 150 tons/ha.

Second, increasing the productivity of salt land through extensification to 200 tons/ha/cycles. Third, increasing the quality of NaCi levels above 97 percent. Then, the fourth is to create the absorption of 6,000 workers.

"The development of this salt pond modeling area is expected to improve the welfare of the community and the independence of the national salt industry," he said.

Previously, PT Garam strengthened collaboration in an effort to realize national salt independence through the signing of a joint agreement on National Salt Land and Industry Development at the office of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

The collaboration was stated in the signing of a memorandum of mutual understanding or MoU between PT Garam and several areas in the Province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), including Kupang Regency, Rote Ndao, Sabu Raijua, and North Central Timor (TTU).

In addition, PT Garam also signed a joint agreement with K-UTECH Salt Technology Germany.

The signing was witnessed directly by the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudy, and the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP), Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.

The two ministers were present as a tangible form of synergy between the Central, Regional and BUMN governments in building a strong and sustainable national salt industry.

President Director of PT Garam, Abraham Mose, said the signing of the MoU was an effort to accelerate the target of achieving salt self-sufficiency.

"Alhamdulillah, earlier we signed the MoU between PT Garam and K-UTECH Germany. Then with the Regent Rote, Sabu, Kupang, and the Regent of TTU witnessed by the Minister of Bappenas, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and the Governor of NTT."

"This is in the context of how we accelerate the process of building the salt industry with PT salt with the regents in each of the regions in NTT."
