RI Has 42,000 Islamic Boarding Schools, Minister Of Public Works: Only 51 Have PBG Permits

JAKARTA - The number of Islamic boarding schools (ponpes) in Indonesia reaches more than 42,000 units based on data held by the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag).

Of these, only 51 units have building approval (PBG).

This was conveyed by the Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo in the signing of the SKB concerning Synergy in the Implementation of Islamic Boarding School Education Infrastructure at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture office, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 14.

"The data we got from the Ministry of Religion, while there are 42,000 Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia with millions of students. However, we regret that only about 51 have PBG permits," said Dody.

As a further step, the government wants to provide incentives for the formation of PBG.

Even so, Dody has not explained in more detail what the form of incentives are.

According to Dody, the provision of incentives is currently still in the brewing stage to be signed a Joint Decree (SKB) between the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).

"The HKPD Law (Financial Relations Between Central Governments and Regional Governments) article 156 has also provided space for local governments to be able to provide leniency and technical service incentives for social and educational activities," he said.

Previously, the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building located in Buduran District, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, collapsed on Monday afternoon, September 29.

Salah satu hal yang paling disoroti dalam kejadian tersebut adalah bangunan tersebut tidak mengantongi PBG.

Selain itu, disebut-sebut pembangunan Ponpes Al-Khoziny juga dilakukan secara mandiri oleh para santri tanpa standar jelas.

Untuk itu, pemerintah akan memperkuat koordinasi lintas kementerian dan pemerintah daerah untuk terus melakukan sosialisasi terkait pentingnya izin dan sertifikasi bangunan, khususnya bagi ponpes.

In addition, it is said that the construction of the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School is also carried out independently by students without clear standards.

For this reason, the government will strengthen coordination across ministries and local governments to continue to disseminate information regarding the importance of building permits and certification, especially for Islamic boarding schools.
