SEZ Industropolis Batang Responds Quickly: Fire Successfully Handled Under 2 Hours, Faster Than National Response Standards

JAKARTA - The management of SEZ Industropolis Batang moved quickly to deal with the fire incident that occurred in the production area of PT Sumber Graha Sejahtera (SGS) on Saturday, October 11 evening.

At around 21:53 WIB, there was an explosion in one of the production supporters (silo) that triggered sparks into wood material in the production area. The regional security team immediately took emergency response action by cutting off the electricity and contacting the internal and external fire fighting team.

In a short time, a joint team from the Batang Fire Department, Weleri, Limpung, and internal SEZ Industropolis Batang were deployed to the location with a total of five fire engines. The fire was fully controlled at 23.00 WIB and the cooling process was completed at 01.00 WIB.

"We immediately coordinated with the fire department team in the surrounding area as soon as we received the incident report. In less than an hour, all hotspots were well controlled. We ensure that all security systems in the area, including water supply and hydrant network operations, function optimally to help extinguish fires. On the other hand, we also ensure that this incident does not interfere with the general operation of the area or other tenant operations within the region," said Marfan Trihartiko, Head of the Operations Division, IT & Services KEK Industropolis Batang.

From the provisional report, seven workers experienced shortness of breath and one of them suffered minor burns (67%), all of whom received treatment at the Kendal Hospital. There were no fatalities in the incident.

Meanwhile, the tenant, Head of Operation of PT Sumber Graha Sejahtera (SGS) Deva Nareswara, expressed his appreciation for the quick coordination between regional teams and firefighters from various regions.

"Once the incident occurred, the regional security team immediately assisted in the evacuation process and initial handling at the location. Thanks to good cooperation with the Damkar team and regional managers, the fire was extinguished quickly so that it did not spread to other areas," said Deva.

He added that the affected area is still in the process of further sterilization and examination by the authorities. SGS also conducted an internal evaluation of the security system and early warning alarms to ensure similar incidents do not happen again.

In terms of law enforcement, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Batang Police, AKP Imam Muhtadi, said that his party had checked the location with the regional team.

"We are also monitoring the process of extinguishing and cooling. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire," he said.

From the fire department, Rokhman Rudiyanto, the Fire Department of Mahir Damkar Batang, said that the handling process went smoothly.

"There are no serious obstacles in the blackout process. The response of the regional security team is good and alert, it only needs to be increased in preparedness. In general, security facilities and blackout access in the area are adequate," he explained.
