JAKARTA - Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadivewa plans to distribute part of the government funds to regional development banks (BPD), especially Bank Jakarta and Bank Jatim.

Purbaya explained that the funds to be distributed came from the state treasury which has not yet been used.

However, he emphasized that the amount of funds to be placed in each regional bank is still in the calculation stage.

Furthermore, Purbaya said that Bank Jakarta and Bank Jatim had shown interest in accepting the placement of the funds.

He assessed that the two banks have great potential in channeling credit widely to various regions, which in the end is expected to have a double effect on the regional economy.

"But DKI wants to be seen and Bank Jatim too. I met the governor there, right. I think I do. Because the other BPD banks lack funds as well. So, if I enter Bank Jatim, it should be fast to other banks. In other areas quickly. We will create more equitable regional economic growth," he said.

He also added that the election of Bank Jakarta and Bank Jatim was based on the large capacity of both of them and strong support from their respective regional governments.
