JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission XI DPR RI Mukhamad Misbakhun positively welcomed the decision of the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive who postponed the implementation of Article 22 of the PPh levy on online merchant transactions through the marketplace.

According to him, this step reflects the government's sensitivity to the national economic condition which is in the recovery phase and continues to support small business actors.

"This is a realistic government step. This delay will provide breathing space for business actors so that they are not burdened when the economy has not fully recovered," said Misbakhun in a written statement, Thursday, October 2.

Misbakhun emphasized that the ideal goal of digital tax policy is not only about expanding the revenue base, but also building a modern tax system, strengthening fiscal data, and creating fair treatment between offline and online businesses.

"This is where the importance of designing tax policies that do not kill MSMEs, while ensuring large marketplace companies make commensurate contributions," said Misbakhun.

He emphasized that the DPR through Commission XI will monitor that this period of delay is really used by the government to reorganize the system, starting from integration with the marketplace, simplification of administration, to clear socialization to traders.

"The postponement does not mean resigning from reform. In fact, this is an opportunity to ensure that when the rules are implemented later, everything goes smoothly, transparently, and is well received by business actors," he added.

Misbakhun also encouraged the government to be more active in dialogue with e-commerce associations and the MSME community.

"If communication is open and the roadmap is clear, I believe this digital tax policy can be implemented without disrupting economic growth, it can even be a strong instrument of justice," he concluded.
