JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that the plan was for the status of the Ministry of SOEs to be lowered to an organizing body. Even so, Dasco said the new agency would not be merged with Danantara Indonesia.
The decline in the status of the Ministry of SOEs to the Organizing Body is in line with the revision of the BUMN Law which is currently being discussed.
"No, he did it himself. The BUMN organizing body," Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Tuesday, September 24.
Dasco explained that most of the ministry's functions have been taken over by the Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Dantara). Therefore, the Ministry of SOEs is considered to be quite focused as a regulator and shareholder of series A.
In addition, said Dasco, the revision of the BUMN Law will also accommodate a number of decisions of the Constitutional Court (MK), including restrictions on the position of deputy minister which can only be concurrently a commissioner for a maximum of two years.
"With these considerations, there is a desire to reduce the status of the ministry to the agency. We'll see the results of the discussion," he said.
Dasco added that the discussion on the revision of the BUMN Law is targeted to be completed before the closing of the trial period, considering that public input has been collected for almost the past year.
"We consider the public participation to be large, plus we will continue to ask for input from the public in additions. It is possible that it will try to be completed before the closing," he said.
Previously, Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi said there was an opportunity for the Ministry of SOEs to drop its status to a body, along with the operational functions of state-owned companies that were mostly handled by BPI Danantara.
"There is a possibility that the ministry may want us to lower its status to an agency. There is a possibility like that," said Prasetyo at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 23.

Prasetyo said, certainty about this matter will be determined through the discussion of the Fourth Amendment Bill on Law Number 19 of 2003 concerning BUMN with Commission VI of the DPR RI.
When asked further about the term agency, Prasetyo suggested waiting. Because, he said it would be discussed further later.
"Wait a minute. Wait for us to discuss it," he said
Prasetyo said the bill would discuss the best options for the Ministry of SOEs in the future. This includes the fate of the state civil servants (ASN) in the ministry.
"If there are consequences or implications for the example mentioned earlier, now those who have served in the Ministry of SOEs are part of what we will think later," he said.
