The Ministry Of Industry Calls The Importance Of Halal Certification As Quality Guarantee And Standard Products

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to encourage the strengthening of the halal industry ecosystem in the country as part of its ambition to become the world's halal center.

However, many challenges still surround these efforts. One of them is the availability of halal raw materials for industry players.

Head of the Halal Industry Center of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Kris Sasono Ngudi Wibowo said the importance of halal certification is quality guarantee and standard for products.

"There is halal certification, when audited there are standards. Later, the audit will have searches and others. If it is found that there is non-halal material, yes, it becomes halal," said Kris at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, Monday, September 22.

"That's why there needs to be something other than an audit, called surveillance or some supervision," he continued.

Halal certification is an official assessment and recognition for a product, whether food, beverages, cosmetics, medicines or services that meet halal standards in accordance with Islamic law.

He added that the halal certification process was not carried out by the Ministry of Industry, but by the halal examination agency.

Therefore, socialization and understanding to producers, the public and the entire supply chain are considered important to build the Indonesian halal industry.

"Starting from raw materials, distribution of raw materials, production processes to distribution of finished products to the market. Those are all halal aspects that must be met," he said.

On the other hand, the government is also preparing halal industrial estate infrastructure to strengthen the ecosystem. Currently, there are three areas that have been established, namely in Bintan (Riau Islands, Sidoarjo (East Java), Cikande (Arang) and Jababeka (Bekasi).

"In Jababeka there is an area in particular, so it's not the whole area. There is a special location for the halal industry," he explained.
