JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia inaugurated and took the oath of Laode Sulaeman as Director General of Oil and Gas (Migas) today, Friday 29 August

"One of your duties (Director General of Oil and Gas) is to help me is energy sovereignty in the context of increasing lifting. We all know that our lifting is not as good as before 2020. Now, the reports I received have produced 600,000 barrels, while our target in 2025 is 650,000 barrels," said Bahlil, Friday, August 29.

To achieve this target, Bahlil emphasized the need for intense communication between the Director General of Oil and Gas, Special Task Force for Oil and Gas, Cooperation Contractors (KKKS), and the Task Force for Increasing Oil and Gas Lifting. Close coordination is considered crucial so that policies and technical steps in the field run in harmony and effectively.

Another important thing that Bahlil emphasized was integrity in work. He asked the Director General of Oil and Gas to avoid practices that pose a risk of causing legal problems and always carry out their duties according to applicable regulations.

"So, I entrust Pak Laode so that the rules must be kept. What I can explain to Pak Laode is that you don't want to be controlled by anyone, make the rules a guideline," said Bahlil.

He reminded that regulations that are considered to hamper the acceleration of increasing lifting will immediately be revised and the tender process for blocks that have not been auctioned off will be accelerated.

"Immediately improve regulations that make it difficult to accelerate the increase in oil and gas lifting and immediately carry out tenders for blocks that have not yet tendered. We must focus on increasing lifting and implementing the rules," said Bahlil.

Responding to the directive, Laode stated that he would implement the Minister's instructions technically and committed to maintaining the realization of lifting according to the target.

He said the increase in lifting was a priority in accordance with what the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources always conveyed at every opportunity and hastened to auction off oil and gas fields that had not been tendered.
