JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso revealed that illegal imports entering Indonesia showed a downward trend after the government routinely monitored every area that was the entrance.
Budi said that although the trend had shown a decline, the government still tightened supervision in areas prone to the entry of illegal imported goods.
"So the trend is indeed decreasing. But it's like this, if the trend is decreasing, it means that it hasn't stopped. So if there is no supervision, no inspection will be carried out, it will go up again. So it will continue until it doesn't exist," he said when met after the exposure of illegal imported goods at the Ministry of Trade Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 6.
He said the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) continues to coordinate with all relevant ministries/agencies to carry out surveillance to prevent the entry of illegal imported goods.
"Of course there are many ways that are done, in my opinion, not all of them go through inspection here. Right, we also have a subject. So we coordinate with all existing K/L. But this tendency has decreased," he explained.
According to Budi, the average perpetrator of illegal imported goods is a new player. The reason is, old players have disappeared in line with the exposures made by the government.
"Most of them are new, yes, that's why we have to do it. So those who have done it don't dare anymore. That's why we conveyed the tendency to decline. Yes, Alhamdulillah, yes, so it decreases, hopefully in the future there won't be," he said.
Previously, it was reported that the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) secured illegal imported goods worth Rp. 26.4 billion. These items consist of tires, plastic raw materials, to food and beverages originating from China, France, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia to South Korea.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the items were the result of supervision involving the Commercial Order Supervision Center (BPTN) from four regions, namely Surabaya, Makassar, Medan, and Bekasi.
"This supervision is carried out from January to July 2025 on or through the post-border customs area," he said at a press conference at the Ministry of Trade Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 6.
Budi said inspection and supervision were carried out on 5,766 documents for notification of imports of goods or PIB. A total of 5,449 PIBs out of 1,424 business actors are in accordance with the provisions based on regularity checks in the e-reporting system.
"A total of 317 PIBs from 147 business actors continued with the field supervision process with the results of 118 PIBs or 52 business actors did not meet the provisions and 199 PIBs or 95 business actors were in accordance with the provisions," he explained.
