JAKARTA - Indonesia's import performance during the first semester of 2025 showed a significant increase, mainly driven by a surge in the import value of capital goods and raw and auxiliary materials.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Agency (BPS) Pudji Ismartini revealed that the import value of capital goods during January to June 2025 reached 23 billion US dollars or grew by 20.90 percent compared to the same period last year, which was only 19.03 billion US dollars.

"The main increase in capital goods imports reached 23 billion US dollars, an increase of 20.90 percent compared to the same period last year and contributed 3.61 percent increase," he said at a press conference, Friday, August 1.

He added that the capital goods commodities that recorded the highest increase included mechanical machinery and equipment and their parts (HS84), electrical equipment and components (HS85), as well as vehicles and spare parts (HS87).

On the other hand, imports of raw and auxiliary materials also grew by 2.56 percent from USD 80.69 billion to USD 82.75 billion.

This increase was mainly due to the increase in exports of precious metal and jewelry products (HS71), cocoa and processed products (HS18), as well as various types of chemical products (HS38).

Meanwhile, imports of consumer goods actually decreased in the first half of this year to 10.18 billion US dollars or 2.47 percent of 10.44 billion US dollars in the same period last year.
