JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade ensures that the public has the right to ask for compensation if they get rice that is not in accordance with the quality or oplosan, and does not comply with the dose stated in the package.
The Director General of Consumer Protection and Orderly Commerce at the Ministry of Trade, Moga Simatupang, when met in Jakarta, Friday, said this had been stated in Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection.
"In Article 4, consumer rights, the right to comfort, security and safety in consumption, the right to choose goods, the right to correct information, the right to be heard and have the right to receive guidance," Moga said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 18.
"This is what underlies the right to be treated and served correctly and honestly, the right to compensation," he added.
Furthermore, Moga said, consumers can ask for compensation by including proof of a memorandum or shopping invoice.
"Every time we buy, right, there must be an invoice or a check like that, yes. That's proof that he was shopping there, that item, then then he asked to exchange to where he bought it," said Moga.
However, if consumers who ask for compensation are made difficult, the public can complain about the complaint to the Non-Governmental Consumer Protection Agency (LPKSM) and the Consumer Dispute Settlement Agency (BPSK).

Based on the results of supervision, observation, and monitoring of Goods in Wrapped Conditions (BDKT) carried out by the Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order (Ditjen PKTN) of the Ministry of Trade in 62 districts/cities, it was found that 30 out of 98 rice products had quantities that did not comply with the provisions or were rejected until March 2025.
As a follow-up to the results of the supervision, administrative sanctions have been imposed on rice packaging business actors under the guidance of the Rice and Rice Milling Entrepreneurs Association (Perpadi) and online development on April 17, 2025.
