JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded a significant increase in the number of customers during this year's school holidays. A total of 3,254,842 customers have traveled by Long Distance Train (KAJJ) and Local Trains.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said that the number of passengers was transported during the period from June 20 to July 5, 2025. Where, the average occupancy is 125.68 percent of the seating capacity provided is 2,589,845 seats.

The highest occupancy of school holidays was recorded on Saturday, June 29, 2025 with 239,186 tickets sold in one day, even though the number of available seats was only 168,219. Thus, the occupancy on that day reached 142 percent, reflecting a significant spike over the weekend during the holiday period," he said in an official statement, Sunday, July 6.

Anne said the average train occupancy that exceeds 100 percent was caused by a dynamic passenger system, namely customers who went up and down at various stations along the route.

"This allows one seat to be used more than once a day of travel, so that the carrying capacity of the train becomes more optimal," he explained.

Since the start of school holidays on June 20, 2025, continued Anne, the daily occupancy of trains continues to be above 114 percent, showing high public interest in rail services as the main mode of safe, comfortable, and timely transportation.

The increase in customer numbers was also driven by the success of the Discount program 30 percent for Commercial Economic Trains which began on June 5, 2025. On July 5, 80,692 discount tickets were sold in one day, setting the highest daily sales record since the program was launched. This achievement surpassed the previous record on July 4 which recorded 79,728 tickets sold," Anne said.

Cumulatively, as of July 6, 2025 at 10.00 WIB, KAI has sold 2,352,003 discount tickets from a total quota of 3,529,612 seats allocated for the period 5 June to 31 July 2025. This means that around 67 percent of the quota has been and will be used by the public to travel at a more affordable rate.

"This increase in occupancy not only reflects operational success, but is also part of KAI's contribution to supporting the national development agenda through Asta Cita, in particular strengthening economic resilience, expanding inter-regional connectivity, and encouraging tourism growth and MSMEs during the school holiday season," said Anne.

Through high mobility during the holidays, KAI has helped encourage community economic activity, strengthened domestic tourism, and created multiplier effects for other productive sectors in various regions.

"KAI will continue to be committed to improving services to the community, providing safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation, as well as being an important part of Indonesia's sustainable development," concluded Anne.
