PKP Minister Ara Will Cancel 14 Square Meters Subsidized Houses If They Don't Receive Positive Responses From The Community

JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait conveyed the possibility to cancel the construction of subsidized houses designed with a building area of 14 square meters (m2) if they do not receive a positive response from the community.

He said the example of the design (mock up) of a 1-room subsidy house with a building area of 14 square meters and a land area of 25 square meters which was exhibited at one of the malls in Jakarta was part of his efforts to attract responses from the public.

"It (a 14 square meter subsidy house) is our draft (design). We are sounding (market exploration) to the people what it will be like. We listen to the (response) of the community. There has been no decision yet," said Maruarar Sirait, quoted by Antara, Sunday, July 6.

He said there was a possibility to cancel the development of the 14 square meter subsidy house if it did not get a good response from the community.

"If it doesn't get a positive (response) from the community, I will cancel it. It's done," he said.

Maruarar also stated that he would coordinate with his staff if it was indicated that there were rules that were violated in making examples of subsidized house designs.

"If later the response is that there are rules that are violated and so on, I will ask the Director General (Director General) of me," he asserted.

For information, the idea of building a subsidized house is minimally included in the draft Decree of the Minister of PKP Number/KPTS/M/2025. The size of the building area is designed at least 18 square meters with a land area of at least 25 square meters.

Meanwhile, according to the current regulations, it is still in effect, namely the Decree of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Number 689/KPTS/M/2023, the size of the subsidized house area is at least 21 square meters with a land area of at least 60 square meters.

In addition to the house with a building area of 14 square meters, a mock-up of a type 2 bedroom subsidy house with a building area of 23.5 square meters and a land area of 26.3 square meters is also exhibited at Plaza Semanggi, Jakarta.
