JAKARTA - PTPN IV Palmco, which is part of the PTPN III Plantation Holding (Persero), collaborates between SOEs by cooperating with PT PLN (Persero) to provide work safety education for palm oil players. This activity took place in the operational area of the Sei Putih Garden and at several other points in North Sumatra.

The activity, which carries the theme "Congratulations on Harvesting, Survived the Danger of Electricity", is a preventive step aimed at increasing awareness of field workers against potential electrical hazards, especially those that occur during the oil palm harvest process using long equipment around the electricity grid.

President Director of PTPN IV PalmCo Jatmiko Santosa said that this educational activity is part of the company's comprehensive efforts in building a consistent and sustainable K3 culture.

Work safety is the foundation of sustainable plantation business, the presence of PLN and PalmCo in providing direct education to palm oil players is a concrete step in realizing a safe work environment. This initiative also reflects our commitment not only to pursue productivity, but also to ensure that all workers return home safely," said Jatmiko in a written statement, Saturday, July 5.

According to Jatmiko, electrical hazard education is very relevant in the midst of dense harvest activities, especially because many oil palm plantations intersect with medium-voltage electricity distribution lines. This has the potential to cause fatal accidents if workers do not understand the risks and are not equipped with sufficient understanding.

General Manager of PLN UID North Sumatra Ahmad Syauki, added that educational activities like this must be carried out regularly as a step to build awareness of risks in the community, especially groups of field workers.

"Things that look trivial but are carried out repeatedly, such as harvesting activities, can be a danger gap if they are not accompanied by the right understanding of safety. For this reason, PTPN collaborates with PLN to provide education and reminders so that every step of work is carried out by ensuring the safety of themselves and the surrounding environment," he said.

The material in this activity includes the risk of using metal-based tools near power lines, how to recognize dangerous network conditions such as hanging cables or oblique poles, to the first action when an electrical incident occurs.

Meanwhile, representing the harvesting, the Head of the Sei Putih Gardens, Efri Handoko, said that direct education was very effective because it touched the daily realities of the harvesting in the field.

"The oil palm harvest work is full of challenges. With this education, our operators are becoming more vigilant and understand preventive measures. We hope that similar activities can continue to be carried out regularly," he said.

Jatmiko added again, this step is a complement to various PalmCo strategies in realizing Zero Fatality targets in all of its work units. Until April 2025, PTPN IV PalmCo has recorded more than 160 SMK3 certified work units and gave birth to 268 General K3 Experts (AK3U) from various Regions.

"We will continue to expand this kind of education and training to other regions, so that all workers who are the most important company assets have the same understanding of the importance of safety," concluded Jatmiko.
