JAKARTA - The government is currently preparing a one-price policy for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) of 3 kilograms (kg) in each province in the country. This policy is to ensure access to energy for underprivileged communities.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung revealed the reason the move was taken. He said there are still many areas that have not been served by LPG, so residents are still using kerosene.
"There are quite a lot of areas that have not been served by LPG. So currently they are still using kerosene, so in the future, which ones can be prepared," he said at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, Friday, July 4.
According to Yuliot, this policy is also an effort by the government to provide a sense of justice for every Indonesian citizen.
"So if this is the one-price LPG policy for certain LPGs, this will actually have a sense of justice for each region," he said.
Yuliot also emphasized that the one-price LPG program will be set by the central government, not by the regional government (Pemda). The goal is to avoid disparities in inter-regional prices.
"This (price) is set by the (central) government. Because this is the LPG one price for this maja, the price is set by the government. If it is determined by the regions, it will actually occur in price differences," he explained.

Furthermore, Yuliot said that according to the one-price fuel oil (BBM) scheme, the subsidized LPG price would be the same throughout Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua. Meanwhile, for non-subsidized LPG prices, they will continue to follow the economic price.
"We also have one price of fuel, right, this one is fuel, the price in Aceh and Papua is the same. There is no difference in price, the name is one price," he explained.
Meanwhile, Yuliot said that later PT Pertamina Patra Niaga as a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) would also oversee the implementation of the policy plan.
"So this monitoring mechanism is for the procurement of LPG, which is carried out by Pertamina Patra Niaga. So how has the volume of the provider been done so far for fuel, it has been carried out by BPH Migas. But, in the future we also have to see how the supervision is in the field," he said.
