JAKARTA PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), a subholding integrated Marine Logistics from Pertamina Group, confirmed its role as a catalyst for national maritime transformation by carrying out three main strategies at the Indonesia Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 which took place at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC).
This step is in line with the call of Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, who emphasized the importance of concrete actions to encourage efficiency and sustainability in the global maritime sector.
According to him, there is great potential in Asia, especially Indonesia in the global maritime industry, considering that 95 percent of shipbuilding activities are in Asia and the majority of the world's major ports are also located in this area.
"The export import transaction as much as 40-60 percent is in Asia. Likewise, sailors, Asia is included in the top 4 suppliers of sailors in the world and Indonesia is ranked 3. My mission for Indonesia, for Asia, and actually for this sector globally, is for us to focus on real action and the results that can be felt. We already have the tools. We just need to start moving forward with what we have said we will do," said Arsenio in his statement, Monday, June 2.
He also emphasized the importance of developing a sustainable and environmentally friendly maritime business, especially in the Asian and Indonesian regions.
"Don't stop developing in terms of maritime security, safety, and protecting the environment. How to make this business sustainable? We need to increase investment in this sector of course," he added.
In addition, Arsenio also highlighted the importance of using digitalization, because the use of technology can increase the operational efficiency of ships and ports, by utilizing various digital devices that are now available.
Responding to these challenges and opportunities, PIS Finance Director Diah Kurniawati revealed that there are three main strategies that are the foundation of the company's sustainable growth, which has now sailed in the international ocean.
"We continue to strengthen PIS competitiveness at the global level, by prioritizing the latest efficiency, sustainability and technology. These three strategies are designed to make PIS the main actor in the Asian energy logistics chain," he said.
Diah conveyed that the first strategy is to increase the capabilities of domestic infrastructure, including terminals and ports, as well as the second strategy, which includes diversification of cargo types such as petrochemicals and bulk drys.
Meanwhile, he conveyed that the third strategy focuses on developing technology and improving the quality of human resources to encourage operational efficiency.
