JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Land Transportation conducted road traffic and transportation safety inspections (rampcheck) on 46 vehicles at the KM 45A Rest Area of the Jagorawi Toll Road, Bogor Regency, West Java.

The vehicles that were inspected were three AKAP buses and 43 tourism buses.

The results were found as many as 21 units or 46 percent violated. The examination was carried out on Thursday, May 29.

Director of Road Transportation Facilities and Safety, Yusuf Nugroho, said that monitoring and law enforcement for bus vehicles is nothing new.

Of course, it is done to ensure the fulfillment of technical and roadworthy requirements as well as the requirements for licensing documents that must be owned.

"At long holidays we jointly carry out inspections of people's transportation safety. This is to ensure safety aspects by checking operational permits, administrative requirements, and the feasibility of bus vehicles operating during this long holiday," he said in an official statement, written Friday, May 30.

Of the 46 buses that were inspected, continued Yusuf, there were about eight vehicles that had surveillance cards that had expired and even 13 vehicles did not have surveillance cards.

"Regarding the BLU-e document or evidence that the vehicle has passed the test or roadworthy, there is one vehicle that has fake documents, four vehicles have expired BLU-e, and two vehicles do not have documents to pass the test or roadworthy," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Road Traffic, Rudi Irawan, explained that if you look at Law no. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, violations of this article are threatened with sanctions in the form of imprisonment for a maximum of two months or a maximum fine of Rp. 500,000.

Article 288 which regulates the obligation of everyone carrying a motorized vehicle to carry and have a Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK) and a periodic test letter (KIR), out of 21 who violates, around 86 percent or 18 vehicles are declared to have violated Article 288.

"Then as many as three others were taken action by the police according to their authority related to violations of non-original STNK or BLU-e forgery," said Rudi.

During this safety inspection, continued Rudi, it was also found that one bus did not have an operating permit and did not run the road with the driver who did not carry the original STNK.

Rudi said the findings of violations during the rampcheck were a serious concern of the Directorate General of Land Transportation considering vehicles that were not roadworthy could pose a risk to the safety of passengers and other motorists.
