JAKARTA - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) uses drones and artificial intelligence to check the reliability of solar power generation systems (PLTS) in the Riau region.
Pertamina's Director of Project & Operations NRE Norman Ginting said this was the first time this was done by the PLTS project developer Company in Indonesia.
"This inspection work has been successfully completed in December 2024 and will continue for the current period with the main aim of assessing solar panel conditions and identifying potential damage that could impact the efficiency of solar power production," he said, Thursday, April 24.
He explained, with the use of drones and artificial intelligence (AI) technology for data analysis, early detection of anomaly or system degradation more precisely. This activity is part of periodic maintenance to ensure the system continues to operate reliably and optimally.
The use of this technology is a collaboration between Pertamina NRE and Terra Drone Indonesia.
The drone used is a series with the most advanced technology. This technology allows imaging to detect hotspots or anomalies in solar panels more precisely and quickly.
"With the ability of drones to reach large areas in a short time, inspections carried out are more efficient and can minimize risks than conventional methods," Norman continued.

Norman said the results of this inspection have helped Pertamina NRE's technical team in analyzing the system's performance thoroughly.
The visual data collected provides an accurate picture for faster decision making regarding corrective or optimization steps.
"If an overtemperature panel or relegation symptoms is found, preventive action is immediately taken to prevent further damage," said Norman.
