The Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) targets the revision of the Cooperative Law to be completed before July 12, 2025, so that it becomes a new legal basis that strengthens the role of cooperatives in the development of the people's economy in Indonesia.

Assistant Deputy for Law and Organization of the Ministry of Cooperatives Try Aditya Putra said the Cooperative Bill has now entered the Legislation Body of the DPR RI.

"Hopefully on July 12 (2025) we will have many achievements, the formation of the Red and White Village and Village Cooperatives, we also have a new Cooperative Law," Try said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 22.

The Ministry of Cooperatives is currently finalizing the revision of Law Number 25 of 1992 concerning Cooperatives so that it can be immediately ratified as the legal basis for more relevant and cutting-edge cooperatives.

Try explained that the Cooperative Law which has been in effect since 1992 was revised in 2012, but was canceled by the Constitutional Court (MK) in 2014, so it is necessary to immediately draft a replacement rule.

Cancellation of the law by the Constitutional Court has mandated the preparation of new regulations, so that the Ministry of Cooperatives is now trying to encourage the formation of stronger replacement laws and support the development of national cooperatives.

"In 2012, the revision of the law was only in 2014 that the law was canceled by the Constitutional Court, so that it mandated us to immediately form or draft a new law," he explained.

He said the Cooperative Bill has now entered the Legislation Body of the DPR RI and it is hoped that the discussion will begin soon during the trial period after this week's recess.

Therefore, the Ministry of Cooperatives hopes that on July 12, 2025, it will coincide with the commemoration of National Cooperative Day, not only achieving the target of establishing 80 thousand Red and White Kopdes, but also the passing of the new Cooperative Law.

Previously, the Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop) Budi Arie Setiadi stated that at least 22 regulations hindered the development of cooperatives in Indonesia so that his party tried to supervise and advocate the Cooperative Law.

Even so, Budi did not specify in more detail the 22 regulations mentioned to be an obstacle to the development of cooperatives in Indonesia.

However, there are several issues regarding cooperatives that must be of concern together. First, cooperative regulations that are less relevant to the latest developments.

He said his party was working on a revision of Law Number 25 of 1992 concerning Cooperatives.

"We are trying to revise it, because this is the Cooperative Law, seven Presidents from the days of Pak Harto, Habibie, Mr. Gus Dur, Mrs. Mega, Mr. SBY, Mr. Jokowi and Mr. Prabowo. There have been seven Presidents, the law has never been revised," Budi said during a Working Meeting and Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission VI of the DPR in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
