JAKARTA - Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman Abdurrahman emphasized his commitment to encouraging the progress of MSME entrepreneurs managed by women.
This was realized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (Minister of PPPA) Arifatul Choiri Fauzi on Monday, April 21.
Maman said women play a very strategic role in the MSME sector.
"Currently, about 64 percent of MSMEs in Indonesia are managed by women. This is a real economic power, which we need to continue to support and develop," Maman said in a statement to the media, Tuesday, April 22.
Maman added, this shows that women's participation in creating job opportunities starts from their own homes as well as is empowered to increase family income, and contributes to creating an inclusive and sustainable economy.
The government, said Minister Maman, has also rolled out various policies that favor female business actors, such as ease of licensing through OSS, utilization of public space by 30 percent for MSMEs, as well as allocation of 40 percent of government and BUMN expenditures for MSME products.
"The access to financing through the People's Business Credit (KUR) program as well as mentoring and training programs is also part of efforts to empower female entrepreneurs," Maman added.
Through collaboration with the Ministry of Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), Maman hopes that gender mainstreaming can be more institutional in the MSME ecosystem.
"This collaboration is important so that women's empowerment is not only a discourse, but is really implemented in real policies and programs," he said.
He also appreciated the Ministry of PPPA, which continues to strive to empower women by signing a memorandum of understanding with 11 other ministries/agencies.
"This cross-ministerial collaboration is an important milestone in encouraging the progress of women in Indonesia, including the ruler of female MSMEs," said Maman.

On the same occasion, PPPA Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi said the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding today became more special because it was carried out on Kartini Day.
"This reinforces the spirit of collaboration and synergy, but also reinforces support for creating safe and productive spaces for women and children in voicing ideas or aspirations, developing their potential, building networks, and taking a central role in every aspect of development," said Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi.
