Support Food Security Program, Pupuk Kaltim Committed To Maintaining The Environment

PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) is committed to preserving the environment to support the national food security program.

President Director of Pupuk Kaltim Budi Wahju Soesilo said that his party continues to strive to encourage sustainable innovation and green transformation and emphasizes the company's role is not only as a fertilizer producer, but also a pioneer of environmental sustainability in the fertilizer and petrochemical industries.

"This step shows our commitment to have a positive impact on the community and the environment in accordance with the direction of the Ministry of SOEs," said Soesilo in his statement, Thursday, February 27.

Soesilo explained a number of efforts have been made by Pupuk Kaltim to support environmental management and national food security programs such as strengthening human resources (HR) through the development of competencies that support green transformation.

In addition, Soesilo said that Pupuk Kaltim also encourages other efforts such as decarbonization, revamping ammonia, and the application of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

Soesilo said that currently Pupuk Kaltim has also started the construction of the first soda ash factory in Indonesia.

In addition, according to him, the soda ash factory applies circular economic principles and is expected to be able to absorb 170,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) every year in the production process.

"These innovations are a tangible manifestation of the company's efforts to ensure business sustainability in line with environmental sustainability," said Soesilo.

On the other hand, Pupuk Kaltim managed to bring two awards at once in the Company's Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) 2024 from the Ministry of Environment (KLH).

The Ministry of Environment has awarded Pupuk Kaltim with the Gold Category PROPER and gave the Madya Green Leadership award to the President Director of Pupuk Kaltim Budi Wahju Soesilo.

The two awards were given directly by the Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq to Soesilo at the awarding ceremony for the ProPER Environment Award.

Hanif said the awarding of PROPER and Green Leadership is the government's effort to encourage companies to improve performance and innovation in the field of environmental management.

"This PROPER and Green Leadership award is expected to be a trigger to continue to improve performance and innovation in environmental management, as well as set an example for others," said Hanif.

PROPER is the highest award from the government through KLH given to business actors who are considered to support environmental management.

The Golden Ranking is the highest ranking in the PROPER given to companies that are considered consistent in running environmentally and community-friendly businesses.

In the 2024 PROPER, Pupuk Kaltim managed to maintain the gold ranking or highest ranking in the award for 8 consecutive years.

Meanwhile, the Madya Green Leadership is an award to the company's leaders who are considered to have provided an example and are able to mobilize all components of the company in maintaining the environment.
