JAKARTA - PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN) has asked the government to relax its copper concentrate exports. Indeed, the copper export license ended on December 31, 2024.

President Director of PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk Rachmat Makkasau said the demand for copper concentrate exports was due to the commissioning process which was slower than planned. Just so you know, until now the copper production capacity in the smelter operated by PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara has only reached 48 percent.

"The commissioning process is running slowly because we are making various efforts to ensure that nothing happens that we don't want. Because this is a new technology that is very different from our ability as miners," said Rachmat in a Hearing Meeting with Commission XII DPR RI, Wednesday, February 18.

Rachmat explained, this smelter has a production capacity of 900,000 tons and will produce 220,000 tons of copper cathode. The side products that can be produced include 801,000 tons of sulfate acid, 18 tons of gold, 55 tons of silver and 77 tons of selenium.

He also explained that the technology used in this smelter is the same as the technology used by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), namely double-bash technology from Yanggu, China.

"Then we combine with several provider technologies. There is also Merin, as well as Metsun, or Mustisec," he continued.

The total investment in this project, he said, reached 1.4 billion dollars including additional investments for power plants and other supporting facilities to reach production capacity of 900.000 tons.

Rachmat also explained, to anticipate slow commissioning, his party also added labor from the initial plan. He also admitted that his party is careful in using new technology and providing export relaxation can help the balance of production.

"With that, we also hope that flexibility can be given to export given the amount of uncertainty in this commissioning process. We hope that the progress of commissioning and start-ups can run well and quickly so that our products can be absorbed," said Rachmat.
