JAKARTA - The involvement of women in controlling State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) has become more common in recent years.

Even BUMN Minister Erick Thohir specifically supports the involvement of women by targeting 20 percent of state company directors to be women by 2023.

"I want the transformation in BUMN to involve women's leadership," he said on Tuesday, April 20.

So, who are the modern Kartini who now occupy important seats in the state-owned company? Here are some of the lists.

1. Nicke Widyawati President Director of Pertamina

If German Chancellor Angela Merkel is arguably the most influential woman in the world today, then Nicke Widyawati, who is the President Director of Pertamina, could be the top feminine person in the ranks of BUMN bosses today.

The woman who was born in Tasikmalaya, December 25, 1967 reached the top position in the state oil and gas company on August 30, 2018 after replacing Elia Massa Manik.

He started working at the age of 21, while still undergoing undergraduate education at the Bandung branch of Bank Duta. After that he had worked at PT Rekayasa Industri.

He was also noted to have been directly involved in several projects in collaboration with Pupuk Sriwijaya in Palembang, Lhokseumawe, Cilegon, and Malaysia.

Nicke's strong career led him to be entrusted with the board of directors of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) as Director of Strategic Procurement I in 2014.

Three years later, he started his career at PT Pertamina as Director of Human Resources and acting as Director of Logistics, Supply Chain and Infrastructure.

In 2018, Nicke was entrusted with a dual position as acting President Director and concurrently Human Resources Director following the removal of five company directors, including Elia Massa Manik.

2. Dwina Septiani Wijaya, President Director of Peruri

Dwina Septiani Wijaya was appointed as President Director of Peruri by the Minister of BUMN Rini Soemarno based on Decree (SK) Number SK-247 / MBU / 11/2017 dated November 20, 2017 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of Members of the Board of Directors of the Public Company (Perum) Printing Uang Republik Indonesia .

Before taking the top seat in a money printing company, the woman born in Salatiga, 55 years ago, had tasted various strategic positions, such as the Special Staff of the Minister of BUMN, and the President Director of PT Bahana Pembimbing Usaha Indonesia (Persero).

Dwina is a figure who is quite concerned with education. This can be seen from the educational background he has. Noted, he is an alumni of the Civil Engineering and Planning S1 at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

Dwina is also known to have won a master's degree at New York University (NYU) and the London School of Economics (LSE).

3. Alexandra Askandar Deputy President Director of Bank Mandiri

The figure who is familiarly called Sandra was approved as one of the bosses of a state company by Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir in 2020. He was included in the elite ranks of Bank Mandiri to replace Hery Gunadi who was appointed as President Director of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI).

This woman who was born in 1972 is a graduate of the University of Indonesia (UI) and Boston University, United States. Sandra's career journey at Bank Mandiri began as group head corporate banking in 2015 and senior executive vice president in 2016.

4. Handayani Director of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI)

Another name in the financial services industry sector is Handayani, who is BRI's Consumer Director.

He is known as one of the 'adventurers' with many careers in a number of strategic SOEs. Based on VOI's investigation, Handayani began serving as the boss of BRI since 2017.

Previously, he was listed as a Director of PT Bank Tabungan Negara Tbk (BTN) from 2016 to 2017.
