JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo met with the World Bank Country Director for Indonesia and Timor Leste Juli Turk at the PU Ministry office, Jakarta, today.

It is known that one of President Prabowo Subianto's priority programs is food self-sufficiency. However, to achieve this, Indonesia experienced a number of challenges. One of them is optimizing the use of water in irrigation systems.

Untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut, Kementerian PU pun menjalin kerja sama dengan World Bank melalui kegiatan Strategic Irrigation Modernization and Urgent Rehabilitation Project (SIMURP) didukung dengan teknologi Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA).

"In order to overcome these challenges, the Ministry of Public Works has collaborated with the World Bank through SIMURP activities supported by CSA technology which increases productivity of agricultural products, efficiency in water use, contributes to reducing emissions and increasing farmers' income," said Dody in a written statement, Friday, January 31.

On that occasion, Dody explained one example of a water-saving irrigation approach that had been carried out in the Cirebon area, West Java.

According to him, the water-efficient irrigation approach that has been implemented in Cirebon is one solution to increase productivity without relying on large amounts of water use.

In addition to supporting food security, said Dody, the Ministry of Public Works will also prioritize handling regional roads, providing clean water to waste management and waste.

The major projects in the Government of President Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka include giant sea wall which functions for coastal security, overcoming land subsidence and flood control.

"This meeting discussed the synergy between the Ministry of Public Works and the World Bank in supporting various strategic projects, including in the food, water and energy security sector," said Dody.

Currently, there are four activities currently underway with funding from the World Bank, namely Strategic Irrigation Modernization and Urgent Rehabilitation Project (SIMURP), National Urban Flood Resilience Project (NUFRIP), Improvement of Solid Waste Management to Support Regional and Metropolitan Cities Project (ISWMP) and National Urban Development Project (NUDP).

He also appreciated the cooperation that had been established between the World Bank and the Ministry of Public Works. "Thank you for the cooperation that has been going on so far. For further discussion on further activities, we will form a small team to discuss technical details," he said.

Meanwhile, the World Bank Country Director for Indonesia and Timor Lestexi Turk welcomed this collaboration and hoped to continue to strengthen collaboration in the future.

"We have a strong relationship with the Ministry of Public Works and look forward to the next collaboration," he concluded.
