JAKARTA - PT PP (Persero) Tbk, (PTPP) has realized its commitment to a greener future-oriented development. PTPP held a Investment of 1,000 Hopes at Way Kambas National Park, East Lampung commemorating World Million Tree Movement Day which falls on January 10, 2025, as well as part of the UPPaya Kehati program in the umbrella of the Rebuild Tomorrow Project initiative.
PTPP's Corporate Secretary, Joko Raharjo, in a written statement, Friday, January 31, revealed that as a company engaged in the construction sector, the company believes that sustainable development must be in line with environmental conservation. In this program, 1,000 Way Kambas endemic trees are planted on an area of 9,000 M2.
This activity has an impact on 13,035 local residents. These trees are projected to absorb 15 kilograms of carbon CO2 equivalent, support the food needs of protected animals, and help forest conservation.
Joko stated that this activity is not only aimed at maintaining biodiversity, but also improving the quality of life of the surrounding community. With this program, it is hoped that it can increase local farmers' income, provide jobs, and have a positive impact on the ecosystem.
Through this activity, PTPP supports several important points in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs), namely: Prevent land degradation and erosion (SDGs 15) through reforestation of critical areas, then reduce the impact of flooding on local settlements (SDGs 15).
Others, increasing green closed areas in conservation areas (SDGs 15), reducing carbon emissions to support climate change prevention efforts (SDGs 13), improving the economy of farmers and the surrounding community (SDGs 1), and providing additional jobs for local communities (SDGs 8).
This action also supports SDGs 13 (Climate Action) as an effort to mitigate climate change and adapt to the impact of climate change. Tree planting is one of the efforts that directly contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), in addition to helping mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.
It is important to note that Way Kambas National Park, which is the location of this program, is home to rare animals such as the endangered Sumatran elephant. Planting this tree is expected to provide food for wildlife while protecting their habitat.
