JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has designed the right assistance program for fishermen affected by the 30.16 kilometer sea fence in the waters of Tangerang Regency, Banten.

Special Staff to the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Doni Ismanto Darwin in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 28, said that his party is currently going to the field to have a dialogue with fishermen who are affected by the illegal sea fence.

He said that the KKP team went directly to the field to have a dialogue with fishermen in every affected village to listen to their complaints.

"The results of this dialogue will be the basis for us to design the right assistance program as soon as possible," he said, quoted by Antara.

In addition, he said that currently the KKP together with all maritime agencies are working hard to dismantle the sea fence that stretches along the Tangerang coastline.

He said the demolition was prioritized to open fishermen's lanes so they could return to sea.

"The reason is that the main complaint is that the existence of the fence makes the fishing results decrease because it has to rotate through the bamboo fence, and operational costs go up because more fuel is needed," said Doni.

Previously, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono targeted the resolution of the 30-16 kilometer sea fence problem in Tangerang waters in the next week.

"Yes, if possible in the next week it can be resolved (the resolution of the Tangerang sea fence problem). We will immediately resolve it, basically as soon as possible, really as soon as possible," he said in a press conference after the Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission IV of the DPR RI at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (23/1).

He emphasized that the settlement carried out by his party was in accordance with the authority of the KKP, namely administratively.

"As we promised Commission IV of the DPR RI, we will reveal it in accordance with our authority, namely checking from the administrative aspect," he said.

He also admitted that he would increase coordination with across ministries/agencies in resolving the sea fence.

"It was concluded that it should be coordinated if there are legal sanctions, it runs to other institutions, there are police there, there are prosecutors there, so we will coordinate later," he said.

He ensured that the investigation of the sea fence was continued by the KKP.

In addition to investigations, he also admitted that he would consolidate and coordinate with other ministries and institutions, local governments to control the use of marine space nationally referring to applicable laws and regulations.
