JAKARTA - The Indonesian Nickel Miners Association (APNI) assesses that the plan to grant mining permits to universities (PT) and MSMEs makes unfair decisions.
Just so you know, the granting of intengah permits was discussed by the Legislation Body (Baleg) through a revision of the Law on the Fourth Amendment to Law Number 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal (UU Minerba).
APNI General Secretary Meidy Katrin Lengkey said that the provision of WIUP to PT and MSMEs was unfair because it was prioritized.
He considered that the process of obtaining the IUP should be carried out by auction.
Meidy said existing miners have the ability to be financial and professional in mining and capability.
However, he regretted that there were parties who were not financially qualified and instead received priority permits.
"For us, we feel this is very unfair because there are priority words. Maybe this can be studied, ladies and gentlemen," Meidy said at the Plenary Meeting with Baleg, Wednesday, January 22.
Furthermore, Meidy also questioned the ability of PT and MSMEs in facing challenges that have been faced by professional mining companies such as overlapping licensing, sectoral egos between ministries, facing natural challenges.
He gave an example when his company received a mining business permit (IUP) but could not carry out mining activities because the Ministry of Forestry did not receive a quota for Borrowing and Using Forest Areas (IPPKH) while the company still had to pay land leases or land rent.
"Can MSME friends or universities afford the challenges we face today?" continued Meidy.
Another problem that must be faced is when you can carry out mining activities, the company cannot carry out commodity buying and selling activities because the port is a mangrove area.
"There are locations that are high in levels but hit by IUPs who don't want to give access. And these are actually non-technical problems faced by us in the field where solutions are difficult. Can they afford the challenges that we are currently facing?" Meidy explained.

Meidy said professional mining companies should invite MSMEs and high-ranking officials to cooperate through the Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM).
"To do research so that they focus on education and how to develop our research technology or reserves, which are currently needed. Actually that must be raised," said Meidy.
