BPS: Indonesia's Trade Meeting Surplus 5 Years In A Row Since 2020

JAKARTA - Indonesia's trade balance has been in a surplus in five consecutive years since 2020. Throughout 2024, Indonesia's trade balance surplus value is 31.04 billion US dollars.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's trade balance surplus has occurred in a row since 2020. In that year, the surplus was recorded at 21.26 billion US dollars. Then, 2021 was recorded at 35.42 billion US dollars. Then, 2022 54.24 billion US dollars. In 2023 it was recorded at 36.89 billion US dollars.

"With a surplus record in 2024, Indonesia's trade balance has experienced a successive surplus in the last 5 years," said Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti during a press conference, Wednesday, January 15.

Amalia said the trade meeting surplus in 2024 was USD 31.04 billion. Consisting of a non-oil and gas trade balance (oil and gas) surplus of USD 51.44 billion.

Furthermore, Amalia said the largest surplus in 2024 was contributed by mineral fuel commodities which reached 35.27 billion US dollars. Then from plant-based fat and animal oil commodities amounted to 26.45 billion US dollars.

"And also iron and steel (HS72) which contributed a surplus of 15.14 billion US dollars," he said.

On a monthly basis, continued Amalia, the balance of goods trading in December 2024 was recorded as a surplus of 2.24 billion US dollars. Despite the surplus, this amount decreased by 2.13 billion US dollars compared to November 2024.

"This means that Indonesia's trade balance has recorded a monthly surplus for 56 consecutive months since May 2020," he explained.

Amalia said the surplus in December 2024 was supported by a surplus in non-oil and gas commodities where the main surplus contributor commodities were mineral fuel (HS27), vegetable animal fats and oils (HS15), and iron and steel (HS72).

"At the same time, the oil and gas commodity trade balance was recorded as a deficit of US$1.76 billion whose commodities contributed to the deficit were the products of crude oil and oil," he said.
