MEDAN PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) continues its efforts to encourage the growth of young entrepreneurs in Indonesia through the 2024 BSI Entrepreneur Talenta (TWB) program. In a series of onboarding activities in Medan City, BSI invites young business actors to compete and gain support in developing their business.

This program is not only a competition, but also part of BSI's strategy to strengthen the MSME sector as the backbone of the national economy. Facing increasingly complex market challenges, the 2024 TWB program targets young entrepreneurs with varying business scale, ranging from beginners to those who are ready to go global.

This year, TWB comes with a higher standard. One of the significant changes is the increase in the turnover limit for the Rintisan category, from Rp200 million to Rp500 million per year. This is done to ensure that businesses are better prepared to compete, both nationally and internationally.

Meanwhile, the Powered category is intended for entrepreneurs with turnovers of more than IDR 500 million per year and business experience of at least two years. This step is expected to help MSME players become more bankable and attract the attention of the formal financial sector.

"We want to encourage young entrepreneurs to survive not only, but also grow sustainably. TWB is a space for them to increase capacity, innovation and competitiveness," said BSI Senior Vice President of Islamic Ecosystems, Habiby in a statement received on Sunday, January 12.

TWB 2024 does not only stop at the competition. This program offers a series of stages ranging from Kick Off, Onboarding, Workshop, to Bootcamp which are designed to provide intensive guidance to participants. During the selection process, thousands of participants will be screened until the remaining 24 finalists will compete in the Grand Final & Awarding round in February 2025.

Onboarding activities in Medan are part of a national series that also take place in other cities, such as Semarang, Bandung, Palembang, Makassar, Balikpapan, Surabaya, and Jakarta. This year, the program targets more than 8,500 participants from various categories, including young entrepreneurs from Islamic boarding schools and communities.

TWB is not a new program. Since its launch in 2022, more than 13,000 young entrepreneurs have joined and felt the impact. Some alumni have even managed to penetrate the international market. For example, Ulur Wiji, Ropi Ropi, and Gulali Books, which are now examples of how MSMEs can develop with the right coaching support.

Programs such as TWB 2024 are proof that the transformation of MSMEs is no longer just a discourse. By facilitating young entrepreneurs to increase their business capacity, BSI not only helps individual business actors, but also strengthens the national economic foundation.

This step is relevant considering the role of MSMEs that contribute more than 60 percent of Indonesia's GDP. However, there are still many challenges that must be faced, such as market access, digitization, and capital.
